Scarce Fourth of July 1865 Oration delivered at Boston by J. M. Manning - the first 4th of July after the end of the Civil War, titled "Peace under Liberty".54 pages

In this oration, Manning, (a popular public speaker), recaps the history of the just concluded Civil War, the task ahead to give civil rights to the freed slaves, Jeff Davis who boasted so much at the beginning, now "smells a gibbet" (a gallows), Abraham Lincoln and the Emancipation Proclamation, and much more.
Some small cloth remnants on front and back covers near the spine. Front and back wraps have vertical crease. Small tear at top edge of the back cover. Contents are partially separated from wraps, but otherwise tight and clean, with a few pages creased at the top right corner.
A scarce Civil War imprint.
