Description
Presented for your consideration is this Antique Civil War Era Metacarpal & Amputation Bow Field Bone Saw. This is an adjustable saw with a primitive adjusting system. It features brass hardware indicative of a high end tool of the time. I can not locate any manufactures marking on the saw itself. The blade is an old Simonds blade however Simonds has been in business for nearly 200 years, since 1832, so the blade could have been replaced at any time. The saw appears to be constructed of some sort of iron and the handle is constructed of a fine hardwood. At its smallest adjustment the saw measures approximately 16 1/4” long. At its longest setting the saw measures approximately 19” long. A neat old piece it would make an excellent addition to any collection.
