Note: I just received additional information about this item. It was originally manufactured as a cone speaker that sat atop a tube radio. There was a mottled blue paper cone and wires that connected it to a radio. (see photo). It was made by the Tower Manufacturing Company, 122 Brookline Avenue, Boston, MA, in the 1920s - back when even the most utilitarian objects were works of art. The paper screen and wiring are long gone (I found the attached photos from another site), and we used it as a fireplace screen for years. It could be restored by a vintage radio collector, used as we did as a fireplace screen, or displayed as a vintage work of art.
This charming and unusual hammered metal cone speaker base for a tube radio, manufactured by the Tower Manufacturing Company of Boston in the 1920s, with it’s bas-relief and fanciful castle motif, is in very good vintage condition. Within a hammered metal circle there is the dimensional silhouette of a walled and towered castle and two trumpeters playing a fanfare. On the hammered base there is a Heraldic shield with the word “tower” within,  We used this base as a fireplace screen, and it looks magical with the glow of a fire behind it. A truly unique and special piece.
This unique piece would be a  beautifully decorative addition to your home.
The speaker base measures approx. 17 1/2” high and 17 1/2” wide. The metal has a burnished golden color to it. There looks to be a repair or a reinforcement on the metal “circle” on either side near where it meets the “castle” base (see photo). That said, the base seems strong and sturdy.
This speaker base is a wonderful example of the design, artistry, and craftsmanship of metalwork design. It would be a unique and beautiful addition to your home.
