c1900 Heavy Hotel Silver Covered Pot ... ATLANTA GA HISTORYHeld about 14 oz of water when I filled it to get the measurement
Do you collect hotel silver items from a "by gone" era? Hotel silver has a distinctive feel and look as it was made heavy to withstand commercial use in hotels, trains, airplane, ships etc.
This is marked on the bottom "The Majestic Co. Atlanta GA" made by Barbour Silver , W M. Mounts 7/8 pint. It is about 4 1/2" wide and about 4 1/2" tall to the top of the knob.
The lid has a cutout for a spoon insert,
This has been used commercially and has some wear . Please see pics.
Age? Looks early c1900-1920 ish
Majestic...was this the hotel? Following is from the internet:
The Majestic Hotel was built in 1898 and advertised as the only steel fireproof hotel in Atlanta, Georgia. It was located on Peachtree Street, across from the governor’s mansion. (One can only imagine the guests that stayed in the hotel while visiting the Governors mansion and thus who may have used this item on occasion. )
A 1902 guidebook describes the Majestic as one of three chief first-class hotels in the city, together with the Kimball House and the Hotel Aragon. In 1927 the hotel was razed to make way for a two-story commercial structure. The site is part of the location of today's 191 Peachtree Tower.
