Description
Two leather bound memorandum/account books, each measuring approx. 3-1/2" x 5-3/8", kept by Joel F. Keller, (1829-1907) of Bucyrus, Ohio, regarding the death of his brother, Lt. Aaron Keller, Co. C, 49th Ohio Infantry, mortally wounded at the Battle of Stones River, TN on Dec. 31, 1862, and died of his wounds in early Jan. 1863, travel expenses to Tennessee to bring home his brother's body, and expenses and receipts of his estate, of which Joel was the Administrator.Joel Keller lost 2 brothers at Stones River, both officers in Co. C, 49th Ohio Infantry, and both mortally wounded on Dec. 31, 1862 - Capt. Amos Keller (1823-1863), and Lt. Aaron Keller (1833-1863).
Also includes a scarce document from the township of Bucyrus, Ohio, dated Feb. 20, 1865, and issued to their father, John H. Keller (1786-1867), acknowledging receipt of from Keller
"for the purpose of clearing Bucyrus Tp. from the Draft"

One book has "Army Acct.' written on the cover, and has a small hand-drawn map of a section of Nashville, showing the location of Hospital No. 6,
lists of soldiers
in the 101st and 49th Ohio, with notations as to what hospital they were in, killed, prisoner, wounded, etc. A memorandum titled "Their effects", regarding the disposition of the effects of soldiers who have died, and with info regarding his brother Aaron's trunk. A list of
"Steamers in our Fleet going up C.[Cumberland] River"
, and another list for those "coming down" the Cumberland. An itemization of his
expenses in going from Bucyrus, Ohio to Nashville, apparently to get the body of his brother Aaron, as there is a charge for the undertaker
. Lists expenses for stays at Columbus, Ohio, Louisville, KY, Nashville, and for return to Bucyrus. More interesting content.
The other book has "Cash Book. A. Keller's State" (Estate), itemizing monies received and expenses paid out for the Estate of Lt. Aaron Keller, 1863-64.
