Description
This is a great chance to own an original and rare piece of Civil War history. This Deane & Adams 56 bore (approx .436 caliber) brass bullet mold for the Tranter revolver is of the type heavily imported by the Confederate States during the Civil War and is the rare ‘tailed’ or ‘teat’ base variant. The original brass finish is evenly toned; evidence of it likely part of a fine cased set. It would be an excellent and key addition to any Civil War/Confederate/English/bullet collection. This mold has it all: a ‘56’ on the right mold block and the correct ‘Registered R. Adams 28 Nov 1851’ slightly faint but still clearly legible. It is just as good condition of that pictured in The English Connection (by Pritchard &
Huey) book!
It is equal in all regards to my other personal 56 gauge Tranter and only being sold as I don’t need two of these fine molds. It is a mold for a high end cased set or serious collector; inferior quality ‘gun show’ molds can be found for a little less. But if you or a special collector are looking for a mold likely never to be upgraded from as a collection cornerstone then this is the perfect choice.
The bullets it casts are found in the Round Ball to Rimfire volume IV (CS bullets), in book #4 (by Dean Thomas), and Civil War Projectiles II (by McKee & Mason).
