    Description

Civil War era Skull and Crossbone Union design envelope Jefferson Davis & Pirate.
This is believed to be a Civil War era general public unused envelope since it is not addressed to anyone and has no postal markings. The Skull & Crossbones design including the design writing “J.D. his marque” is meant as a slur comparing Jefferson Davis “J.D.” to a pirate. This fragile envelope measures approximately 8 1/2 X 5 1/2 inches. The paper is thin with some wrinkling, toning and has flap corner tears … one of which may have been neatly glued partially. There does not appear to be any adhesive on the inside flap. A scrape line across the skull appears to be printed rather than something having happened to the envelope. Please examine the photos and ask questions in advance.
This will be shipped in a box supported with strong corrugated cardboard.
