GREAT CIVIL WAR ERA BRASS U S CARTRIDGE BOX PLATE FOUND GETTYSBURG- REYNOLDS WOODS - THIS EXCAVATED EAGLE PLATE MEASURES 3 1/2" ACROSS BY 2 1/8" - HAS MARKS WHERE THE IRON HOOKS WERE ON THE BACK - LEAD FILLED BACK - THE PLATE SHOWS GROUND ACTION LOSS ON EDGES AND SOME LOST ON THE BRASS FACE -TOP LEFT CORNER - SEE PHOTOS - THIS RARE RELIC WAS DUG - FOUND AT THE REYNOLDS WOODS MANY YEARS AGO - 1969 ON PRIVATE LAND -RELIC IS IN FAIR PLUS CONDITION - ON JULY 1ST -1863 UNION INFANTRY FROM 1ST CORPS RUSHED TO THE AID OF UNION CAVALRY ENGAGED WITH CONFEDERATE INFANTRY WEST OF GETTYSBURG - THE CORPS COMMANDER WAS A RAISING STAR IN THE UNION ARMY - BRIGHT - ABLE - GENERAL REYNOLDS WAS ON THE SCENE AND HAD DIRECTED A COUNTERATTACK BY THE FAMED IRISH BRIGADE AGAINST THE ADVANCING CONFEDERATES - AT THE START OF THE FIGHT A CONFEDERATE BULLET FOUND THE MOUNTED REYNOLDS - HE DIED SHORTLY AFTER - HIS DEATH CHANGED THE COURSE OF THE BATTLE BY HIS ABSENSE OF HIS LEADERSHIP - THE WOODS IS ALSO KNOWN BY IT'S PRE-BATTLE NAME HERBST WOODS - RARE RELIC AND GREAT ADDITION TO ANY GETTYSBURG OR CIVIL WAR COLLECTION
