Description
Antique originalcivil war hatchet / boarding axe ax
Civil war
HATCHET
boarding axe
United States Army / navy
Classic civil war era hatchet or boarding axe
Good condition
It has a straight 14” hickory handle
The head is about 6” long
The upper section where the head attaches is slightly worn and split from period use …
The head looks like it was purposely reinstalled upside down ,… ( giving it a more menacing arc-of -impact , more suitable for fighting than chopping wood )
The hammer face on the reverse side of the blade has a chipped along the upper edge -
Decent collectible / displayable condition -
There is no evidence of severe pitting or over sharpening
This style ax head is identical to documented examples excavated at civil war battle sites
The straight hardwood handle is a classic indicative of 1860 mfg
It’s not perfect - but then again I am not asking a high three figure price for it !
These are getting very hard to find -
A must have for every civil war collector !
It could have been used by the United states / U.S. army or the C.S.A. / confederates / rebels -
A great relic for your advanced civil war collection
DONT PASS IT UP !
