    Description

Here are 3 antique knives. The TOP ONE is pre-Civil War and many of these type filled soldier's knapsacks.  Has a tapered tang which dates it to before the war. Has a horn (?) or antler handle. Measures 13 inches overall. Marked James Benn, Sheffield. J. Benn started making knives in 1841.  MIDDLE KNIFE is likely post war.  Marked Joseph Rogers and Sons and V and R for Queen Victoria. She reigned from 1837 to 1901. Not marked England. The Law required country of origin after 1890. So made before 1890. Has nice smooth antler handle. Manufactured between Civil War and 1890. Measures just shy of 14 inches. BOTTOM KNIFE also marked V and R, Sheffield. No England stamp means before 1890. But the iron butt cap usually suggest before the Civil War.  I don't know what the handle in made from. Looks like antler, but I don't think it's antler. Measures 14 1/2 inches overall. All the handles are tight.
