    Offered for your consideration is this Very Rare Primitive Civil War Period Child's Boston Style Rocker with Original Period Thin Rocker Runners & Slight Residual Red Paint still remaining on the wood. There are a few square nails that we can see & under the thick hand hewn plank seat there are some black stamped/stenciled letters that read "HAYDEN, WARREN | ILL". We have owned this rocker for at least 40 years & are finally parting with it. To the best of my recollection, when we purchased it we were told the original owner/child it belonged to had become an officer in the Civil War & that he lived in Illinois as a child. Now, while trying to find more info I think I have discovered that Warren Hayden was in the 187th Ohio Infantry & was a First Lieutenant in the Union Army. It stands approx. 26" high x 14-3/4" deep & measures about 17" wide at the arms (11" wide in the inside seat back area). The rocker runners measure 23-1/4" long. The wood on this rocker is not finely sanded & we left the condition of the wood exactly as we purchased it.
