Description
The following item is an authentic North Chase and North Civil War iron camp lid. This lid would have gone on the top of a camp cooking pot. It is made completely of iron and weighs about 4 pounds and is about 9.5" across. On the lid is the lettering No.2 North. Chase and North, Philadelphia. It also has an anchor design on it. The handle is also iron and is integrated into the lid. This Union Camp lid was recovered in 1959 at Snyder's Bluff Battlefield in Mississippi (private property w/permission). The pot was not recovered. The lid when first obtained was orange brown in color and had suffered severe rusting. we had it chemically treated to remove any loose rust and prevent further oxidation. It has been completely restored to it's original look. Camp lids are unusual to find especially one by North Chase. We have seen a few in museums but have never seen them on the open market. A very nice piece in very good condition.
