Civil War Relic Confederate Numbered Enfield Bayonet Scabbard---#657

Description

Up for bid is a very rare Relic Confederate numbered enfield sword bayonet scabbard. This enfield sword bayonet scabbard was once part of a set matched to a Confederate imported enfield rifle---and the numbers matched the bayonet and the ramrod. What makes this piece so rare is that it has a the hand engraved numbers on the button of the scabbard. There are only a very small amount of these numbered scabbards known to exist---many less than the bayonets themselves, which are rare in their own right. It is unlikely how many, but close to a dozen or less have been confirmed to be known of this pattern.
The bayonet scabbard is in relic shape---was likely found in an out-building or similar and shows obvious signs of shrinkage and exposure to the elements, including missing the drag and rust on the iron faces of the scabbard.
The rarity of these numbered scabbards cannot be over-emphasized. They are extremely rare and not often seen. I have decided to part with this piece as I look to other areas of my collection.
This relic was found on private property with the permission of the landowner.
