I found this heavy duty brass artifact in my Confederate Cavalry Camp in Goochland County, Virginia. It measures 2.61 x 3.95 inches. I think this is an ornamental device that would have been worn on the horse’s forehead during a ceremony or parade, certainly not suitable for heavy campaigning, for it served no serviceable function. I can find no markings on the artifact, but it is made of red brass, if that tells us anything. (Confederate Brass was red due a lack of Zinc which makes for a yellow brass product that is also stronger). Buy it Now for 5.00 plus shipping
