    Description

    The 61st Virginia Infantry Regiment was raised in Virginia to serve the Confederate States Army. It served as heavy artillery in the Portsmouth and Norfolk area. The 61st participated in many battles from Sharpsburg, Gettysburg, to Cold Harbor.  It was assigned to Gen. Mahone’s Brigade.  The regiment ended the war at Appomattox and surrendered 10 officers and 107 men.
    Offering a WAR-DATE Confederate Document, 7 3/4 X 10 1/4, signed by "Alex E. Etheredge" August 2, 1863, being a provision return. Also signed at bottom by Colonel Virginius Despeaux Groner (1836-1903) who surrendered with General Lee at Appomattox, and by Robert Taylor, AAG. to General Mahone.
