    Description

If you’re a collector of early radio-phonographs like I am, you know one of the most heartbreaking experiences of the hobby is coming across a beautiful, rare specimen and excitedly raising the lid, only to discover that the phonograph is missing – or, worse, has been replaced by a later turntable unit that can play LP’s and 45’s in addition to 78’s. You’d love to own the unit, but you can’t bear the thought of keeping it as it is, and you strongly suspect you’ll never be able to find a matching original phonograph to restore it back to its former glory.
Every once in a while, though, you get really lucky.
If you own a 1929 Majestic model 181 radio-phonograph – minus the original phonograph – and have been hoping against hope you might someday find an original phonograph to replace the one that was excised from it decades ago…well, this is your lucky day. If you own a 181, you know it’s a beautiful, and rare, ornate mahogany lowboy console with doors – a 9-tube set which boasted a pair of 50 output tubes – that Majestic produced and marketed at great expense just months before the Great Depression hit, which meant they didn’t sell many of them. Everything is present here, from the gorgeous (and rare) art deco Majestic horseshoe magnetic pickup (good luck just trying to find one of those!) to the turntable to the electric motor to the needle cups. Even the lid braces are included! The motor board measures 22.25”w x 13.5”d, and should fit other concurrent models, as well. If you’ve been looking for one of these, you know this is a once-in-a-lifetime find. Best of all, I offer it here with NO RESERVE – high bidder takes it!
I will ship this item ONLY within the United States. If you live elsewhere and are interested in it, please contact me before bidding so we can discuss the shipping charges, which can be very expensive outside the U.S. I ship once a week (whenever possible). Having received, over the years, some items that did not survive shipping, I always take care to pack very carefully. If you prefer, I will be happy to drop it off at a nearby UPS store and have it professionally packed and shipped at your expense. I reserve the right to raise or lower the shipping charges should they prove to be significantly different than those determined by the shipping calculator. I reserve the right to refuse sale to anyone with excessive negative feedback or an otherwise suspicious history. Payment is due within three (3) days of the auction's close. Due to its age I am selling this item without any warranty. All sales are final. I am not a dealer, and don’t have a big operation with a staff, so I would appreciate your patience while I take the time to pack your items with the care they deserve.
Be sure to see all the pictures! I'll be happy to answer any questions you may have, but please try to ask as early as possible, as it sometimes takes me a while to get to my email. Please see my other listings, as I am running out of space and am thinning out my collection considerably. I have several fine items up on Ebay right now, and will be listing many more in the weeks and months to come, so please keep checking. Good luck and happy bidding!
