    Description

After a bit more than 60 years of collecting, it is time to move the collections along. Having had two Great Grandfathers in the Civil War provided me more than a passing interest in that conflict. Over the years I completed a pretty decent collection of bullets and minis from all the major (and some minor) Civil War battles - time to let them go. From my collection are three dug Civil War Bullets - a lot of 3 different types from 3 different sites. Makes great interesting gifts or get your collection started now! Ft. Caswell – Southport, NC – at the mouth of the Cape Fear River stood several Confederate forts protecting the entrance towards Wilmington, one nearby was the tremendous earthenwork Ft. Fisher. This dropped and dug .69 caliber ball was found near Ft. Caswell on the south side of the Cape Fear.
Bentonville, NC – from one of the last engagements in the Carolinas and the war, March 19-21, 1865, a fired and dug Confederate .54 caliber with no rings.
Appomattox, VA – a series of battles were fought March 29-April 9, 1865 in what became known as the Appomattox Campaign that concluded with the surrender of the Confederate General Robert E Lee’s Army of Northern Virginia to the Union Forces under the command of Lt General US Grant marking the end of the Civil War. When you pick up this .69 caliber three ring bullet and feel its weight, you really understand why there were so many amputations from rifle injuries. This one was dropped, not fired.
