    Description

    The darbuka
(also variously spelled and called the dombek, dumbak, doumbek, derbeki, tablah, or tombek) is the most popular Middle Eastern drum. Characteristically played in a horizontal position across the lap with the hands and fingers, this goblet-shaped drum produces a wide dynamic range of tones.
This instrument was a gift to me, so I do not know its origin, but it is beautifully made, has a terrific bright, crisp sound, and the wooden body is adorned with a mother-of-pearl inlay. The drumhead is goatskin and is in very good shape and has some discoloration.
