    Description

    VARINA DAVIS.
    Varina Davis (May 7, 1826- October 16, 1906) was the only First Lady of the Confederate States of America, and the longtime second wife of President Jefferson Davis.  She did not support the Confederacy’s position on slavery and was ambivalent about the war.
    FLOWERS FROM THE GRAVE OF MRS. JEFFERSON DAVIS TAKEN BY CONFEDERATE VETERANS
    The flowers were taken from Mrs. Davis' coffin by Confederate soldiers who acted as her pallbearers.  The item is accompanied with a handwritten note of provenance, “Flowers from grave of Mrs. Jefferson Davis in Richmond, VA Oct. 19th, 1906 coffin carried by confederate veterans.”  The flowers are in overall good condition and measure 0.50 inches.
