IDED CONFEDERATE BRASS VIRGINIA OFFICER’S STURIPS, GENERAL LEE’S STAFFThis pair of brass officer’s strips were on the Buena Vista Saddlery, Virginia plantation saddle of Major Giles B. Cooke who served on the staffs of Confederate Generals P.G.T. Beauregard, Braxton Bragg & Robert E. Lee from April 1861 to April 1865. Giles Cooke was a graduate of the Virginia Militia Institute in 1859 & before the war he served on the staff of General Philip St. George Cooke & resigned to go south in April,1861. He was wounded at the Battle of Sailors Creek on April 6, 1865. These strips are 5 1/8” tall x 5” wide in the middle with a 4 7/8” x 17/8” bottom plate that has a long cutout with 4 inward pointing points They are both in good & fairly well used condition They were bought along with some other artifacts of Major Cooke at an estate sale of the Cooke family It comes with a certificate of authenticity & historical research on Major Cooke & Virginia plantation
