    SAMUEL COOPER
    .  Samuel Cooper (June 12, 1798 - December 3, 1876) was a career United States Army staff officer, serving during the Second Seminole War and the Mexican American War.  He was also the highest ranking Confederate general during the American Civil War.  After the conflict, Cooper remained in Virginia as a farmer.

    Official manuscript document promoting Brevet Colonel Samuel Cooper to, “Asstnt. Inspector General, in the Western Division,” and signed by A.A.G. Whiship of the Adjutant General’s Office.  The document was likely personally presented to and owned by Cooper, titled General Orders No. 33, one page with a blindstamp, measures 9.75 by 7.75 inches, created on October 16, 1850 in Washington, DC, and in overall fine condition.
