    Description

    An
Original, Civil War Era, US Army 5th Corps Badge, engraved "JL", for John Lanigan, a Soldier who was with Company A, 9th Massachusetts Infantry, who was wounded at Wilderness, VA and eventually was KIA at Spotsylvania Court House in VA, 5/12/1864.  I have attached a little history to the piece as well:
John Lanigan, a 26-year-old bootmaker from Boston, enlisted on 2/10/1862 as a private with Co. A, 9th Massachusetts Infantry. He was captured 12/13/1862 at Fredericksburg, VA, and paroled in 1863. Lanigan reenlisted 2/16/1864; WIA 5/5/1964 at Wilderness, VA; and KIA 5/12/1864 at Spotsylvania Court House, VA.
The Nickel Silver 5th Corps Badge is nicely engraved with "J.L." and is pin backed for wear.  The pin was re-attached to the badge at some time in its lifetime.  The cross shaped 5th Corps Badge is 7/8" x 7/8" in overall size from tip - to - tip!  I found another one of these badges, as a stickpin, to John Lanigan that sold on auction June 25th, 2021 for a hefty sum!  It's a Very Nice Looking and interesting piece of US Civil War History!  Free Postage to the
