Description
Here we have a period oil on canvas of an American Civil War encampment at Chain Bridge, Virginia of a group of Zouaves featuring it's commanding officer Capt. Joseph Victor Meeks. (Meeks was a member of the Meeks family famous for their furniture making in the 19th century.) Others features include cannon, rifles, weapons, tents and furnishings. Original untouched condition with original lemon gold frame. Three small tears and as seen in the photos. Artist signed and inscribed in pencil on stretcher. May need cleaning, restoration, conservation. SOLD AS IS. Bought from a very old New England family collection. Measures 13" x 20"(site size) with a 2" frame. C.1860'sNOTE: SILVER ITEMS MAY REQUIRE SOME POLISHING.
