    History for the Preservationist: The Corpus Christi Beach Hotel was the Col. John T. Dickinson and Mr. Robert Kleberg. The hotel was a 4 story 100 room development with additional parcels of land available for beachfront cottages for the wealthy. The Hotel opened on July 8, 1912 and operated only a few years before being taken over in 1919 during World War I by the War Department for use as a convalescent camp for sick and wounded
    troops
    (The Spanish Flu pandemic was raging also at the time) . The building suffered significant damage in September 1919 when the entire first floor was swept by the waves and storm surge of a hurricane. After the war the fate of the building is uncertain, but it may have been renovated and become the Breakers Hotel. The façade and porches of the two hotels are quite similar.
    The silversmith mark on the fork is that of E. H. H. H. Smith, Bridgeport, CT. Listed in Bridgeport Directory in 1907, went in receivership in 1918 and was bought by Albert Pick & Co in 1919.
