Taxidermy Art Doll. Doll in Real Quail Pelt Dress. W/ bird'snest & skull shoes. Shipped with USPS Priority Mail. I had a quail pelt that I skinned and preserved myself. I decided to use it to fashion a couture outfit for this barbie doll. I transformed her into a beautiful, woodland bird creature.
The pelt is still in its entirety (one piece) and the wings were removed to create arm holes. It's a very fragile pelt (as it came from a tiny, delicate quail), but is glued securely onto the doll. Her arms are fully pose-able as are her legs, but she's not really for playing with. Just for admiring.
I created a realistic-looking birds nest with twine and wood wool. Then I styled her hair into a variety of braids, one which wraps around the birds nest. Oh and there's two cute lil eggs in the nest. The nest is pinned to her head, not glued, so the hair could be restyled if you really wanted to.
Oh and I added tons of human-hair fluttery eyelash clusters to make her even more birdy.
She's wearing a bracelet made out of real rodent bones. Mice, I believe. And her shoes are the best! I crafted them out of a silicone mold of a dog skull. Painted them to look like bone. The shoes fit her quite well and can be taken off and on. Or put on another Barbie, perhaps.
Oh! And there's a red and green bird perched on her shoulder. Sculpted and painted and happily living on her shoulder.
The stand is handmade by me! Wood and wire keeps her upright, but delicately, as to not damage the bird pelt.
Animal origin: quail was purchased frozen whole from a pet-food company.
