Description
This is an original silver-plated tea service saucer from The Commodore Hotel in New York City. 4 inches diameter. Named after "Commodore" Cornelius Vanderbilt, it was one of the largest and most luxurious hotels in the world when it officially opened its doors in 1919 with much fanfare. However, this saucer was ordered in 1917 - two years before its delayed opening. There were major construction complications that contributed to the delay. The silver service was part of The Commodore's inaugural set of silver plate. The Commodore has a lengthy and glamorous past. In 1976 Donald Trump purchased The Commodore, gutted the entire structure and when all the renovations were done he renamed it "The Grand Hyatt New York."Bottom inscriptions read: THE COMMODORE, 1917, GMCO, anchor logo, EP, 04476, with Gorham's date mark for 1917. A quality vintage piece of hotel silver.
